Bollène market is located on the Place du 18 juin 1940. This is on a parking north-east of the city, on the shore of the Lèz river (map). 60 different booths are to be found on this market. The product range includes fruit and vegetables, direct marketing food, cheese, oarganic products, fish and seafood, meat products, meat products, flowers and crop and also clothes, kitchen utensils, furniture, toys and not non alimentary producs.
The Bollène market has existed for more than half a millennium. It was instituted by ordinance in 1481 by Giuliano della Rovere (future Pope Julius II), legate and archbishop of Avignon. His authorization fixed this weekly market every Saturday in honor of the mother of Christ. Market day was often moved, first to Friday (1704), Monday (1712), then Thursday. It was not until 1866 that it was definitively fixed for Monday.
This market was once held on Place Queyrade, then known as Place Carrée. Under the arcades of the square, poultry, game, fruit, seeds, cheese or cereals were sold. Weighing stones were installed on site. Meat and fish stalls were provided by the City Council.
